The Decorator's Eye

Magen H Gallery is pleased to announce an upcoming collaboration, The Decorator's Eye, which will showcase curations with French mid-century furniture pieces from our collection by notable interior designers Robert Stilin, Michael Bargo and Alyssa Kapito. With this collaboration, we want to provide a space to show each designer’s personal aesthetic and hope to create a unique type of platform allowing innovative ways of expressing one’s creativity in a gallery setting.

This show is an extension of our online viewing room series "Staying Home With", which launched during the start of the pandemic where we explored how interior designers, collectors and artists were spending their time during the lockdown as well as an insight into their favorite design pieces. To bring this concept to life, we are inviting three designers who participated in the series to expand on the pieces they chose for their wish list. With the gallery partitioned into individual sections, Stilin, Bargo and Kapito are given the freedom to curate their own interpretation of our collection that reflects their style.

 

Meet the Decorators

MICHAEL BARGO
New York-based dealer, stylist, and designer, Michael Bargo, reinterprets the history of decorative arts for contemporary sensibilities. Now based out of his Upper East Side apartment and gallery - Galerie Michael Bargo - where almost all pieces are for sale, he has been a major actor of the New York City design scene for the past decade. With his faithful assistants, his two cats Ossie and Scotty and dog Temo, Michael has been juggling between projects throughout the USA as well as exhibitions in collaboration with Green River Project. Michael has also been featured in W, Architectural Digest, The New York Times, Interior Design, Cultured, AnOther, Hypebeast and Dezeen.

ROBERT STILIN
Robert Stilin is known for effortlessly combining crisp, clean architecture with custom upholstery, antique and vintage furniture and modern and contemporary art to create casually elegant homes that are warm, comfortable and very livable. With over 25 years of experience running his own design firm, the New York and Hamptons based designer has built a solid reputation as a highly versatile interior designer whose classically modern work is custom tailored to the needs of each client and project. Robert has been featured in Elle Décor, House Beautiful, W, House + Garden, Food & Wine, Hamptons Cottages & Gardens and more and was named Architectural Digest's Top 100 Designers in 2016,2018, 2019 and 2020.

ALYSSA KAPITO
Since founding her eponymous firm, Alyssa Kapito has developed a reputation for creating elegant, bespoke interiors that focus on beautiful textures and clean lines. Recent projects include a complete gut renovation of an Upper East Side pre-war apartment, a modern beach house in Bellport, and a chic family home in Beverly Hills. Alyssa has been widely recognized for work in the design field and was recently added to the prestigious "Elle Decor A-list" of the top interior designers in the world. Alyssa has also been featured and profiled in Architectural Digest, 1stdibs, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Traditional Home, Vogue, The New York Times and Domino Magazine and has been named one of the top "7 Design Stars to Watch."
